As we age having great skin becomes even more important as we try to maintain our looks and minimise wrinkles and using natural skin care products is probably more important than ever.
Having a good complexion is certainly more about what we put into our bodies than what we put on it.
We Need To Start On The Inside
There are many things you do to improve your health which will also improve your chances of having a great complexion.
- Stop eating sugar and processed foods
- Eat whole, healthy real food and preferably organic and definitely not from the dirty dozen.
- Get plenty of sleep
- Reduce stress
- Balance your gut by eating a diet rich in probiotics and prebiotics.
- Get plenty of omega 3
- A diet rich in antioxidants will help cleanse your body of unwanted toxins
- Zinc is good for the skin
- Take a collagen supplement
On The Outside
What we put inside is definitely important but what we put on the outside is a close second.
Creams, sun-block and cosmetics can contain toxins such as parabens, petrochemicals and even lead.
Not only are these things bad for your skin but they can be absorbed into your bloodstream and be bad for your gut which in turn will show on your skin. Double whammy!
Many skin care products also cause havoc with your hormones causing an imbalance in your gut which can create a myriad of health issues some of which can be extremely serious.
Natural Skin Care Products
Lucky for us finding great products to put on our skin is getting easier.
I urge you to consider using natural skincare products.
If you do make the transition to natural products I recommend you don’t overwhelm yourself by doing it all at once. Change one thing at a time and take time to enjoy and celebrate each change.
Don’t feel as if you should throw away everything you already have. Definitely do a declutter and keep only the products you truly need. Then only replace your products as you finish each one.
I have recently started changing to all natural and am loving that my skin actually looks better.
First
My first transition was to using Natural Instincts Shampoo and Conditioner courtesy of my daughter’s research which was based around the best that was available for a reasonable price.
Moisturiser
Next, it was my moisturiser.
I was using Dermalogica products which I loved. My supplier also sells and Australian brand natural product rrom Yuva so it made sense to switch.
I bought the daily moisturiser and serum which I absolutely love. Together they really moisturise my skin which has dried with age and they do it extremely well. An added bonus which I was not prepared for was that these products are cheaper and not just a little bit, I am finding 40 to 50% cheaper than my more expensive toxic brands.
Cleansers
I stuck with the Yuva brand and bought the AHA cleanser and a scrub. I love, love, love them.
Routine
My routine is to wash my face as soon as I get up in the morning and put on an easy moisturiser that isn’t too expensive and save my better moisturiser for after my exercise and shower. For this, I have chosen a vegan product that was available at my local chemist.
When I have done my morning exercises and chores I shower and then I put on the Yuva serum, oil and moisturiser.
For my body I use MooGoo which is by far the best moisturiser I’ve used.
What about you will make the move to natural skincare products?
Thank you so much Jane. I have been thinking about this too and didn't know where to start.
Thank you for the suggestions, I will have a look.
It’s definitely worth it Sharon. I find them less expensive and think my skin is actually in just as good if not better condition. It looks like your in Australia so I definitely recommend the Yuva brand.
