Currently, I am 14 days into a free 30-day yoga challenge which feels like it will be just the beginning of a very long and enjoyable journey.
Yoga is a 5000-year collection of Indian knowledge and wisdom.
It is harmonising the body with the mind and breath. It does this through the means of various breathing techniques, yoga postures (asanas), self-love and acceptance and meditation.
In my hands, I reduce that 5000 years to 30 minutes of graceless, clashing, uncoordinated body arranging that no person should ever have to lay eyes on. I will never be as flexible as some of the yogis who somehow have joints of rubber, but that is not the point. The point is to improve on what we have. It may take another 5000 years which I don’t have in this life but at least I have made a start.

Yoga is one of the best things you could practice for your health and wellbeing especially as you journey into menopause
As mentioned in a previous post, I was struggling to continue on my journey in the martial arts world. While making the decision whether to keep it up or not I have been exploring the world of yoga and I have to say I am loving it. I look forward to the peace and sense of well-being it brings despite my incoordination.
The changes are already noticeable to me. My core is starting to strengthen further and I am able to relax into the poses with breathing which means my flexibility is improving.
I chose the free 30-day yoga challenge I am currently doing by checking out a few that were mentioned online and seeing which one resonated with me.

My Top 5 Picks Of Free Yoga Videos
I recommend doing a free yoga challenge first as each lesson is designed to follow along from the last and you haven’t forked out any money if it doesn’t work out for you.
As I have worked through my challenge I have picked out the lessons I feel I have achieved the most benefit from and will add these to another challenge from another site. I will keep doing this until I have a set of lessons which I feel best benefits me.
You may have different goals and ideas of what you would like to get out of your yoga. But for now, I suggest you do a challenge until you can find your own way.
1. Do Yoga With Me 30 Day Challenge
This is the challenge I am currently working my way through. It is made up of down to earth ‘flows’ presented by instructors who are easy to identify with.
I like that they are not all impossibly beautiful with yoga bodies that seem to be able to stretch in every direction. Shallow? Maybe but it makes me feel a little more at home.
2. Yoga With Adriene
Adriene presents yoga lessons with an easy down to earth style that makes you feel comfortable and will appeal to many.
She has a large variety of exercises for every part of the body as well as the more traditional yoga.
Her 31-day challenge is called Revolution.
This is what I would like to move onto next.
This site is well-set out with a mixture of free and premium lessons.If you want to join their premium plan it is $15 month or $120 per year.
Their 30-day challenge takes only 10 – 20 minutes per day and is free to join if you sign up which is an easy and painless step.
4. Be More Yogic
This is very similar to Do You Yoga with free and premium lessons. You can filter your search of lessons for your yoga level, favourite style, lesson length or instructor.
Once again you need to register on the site but it is a fairly undemanding process.
5. Yome Your Home Yoga
This is another well-organised site which catalogues their lessons into categories to better enable you to choose just the right lesson for you.
You have a choice that varies from lessons for asthma to buttocks and everything in between. They also have guided meditations for those days you would prefer to just listen and not move.
Many of these sites include meditation practices which may be more your style. I encourage you to at least give some of the easier practices a go. Aside from improving my flexibility, I feel calmer and more in control and that can only be a good thing.
